About Timothy Wayne Folsome

Writer | Director | Photographer

Compelling. Suspenseful. Powerful. These are the hallmarks of Timothy Wayne Folsome’s award-winning storytelling. An accomplished writer and director, Timothy has built a career creating films and television that grip audiences and keep them on the edge of their seats.

Raised in Youngstown, Ohio, Timothy moved to Los Angeles in 1991 to pursue his passion for filmmaking. With a degree from The Ohio State University and a Film & Television certificate from Los Angeles Community College, he immersed himself in every aspect of the craft.

His debut feature, Uninvited Guest, starring Mekhi Phifer, became his breakout success—winning Best Film at the 1999 Acapulco Black Film Festival and the 1999 Urbanworld Film Festival. Distributed by TriMark Pictures (now Lionsgate), it went on to enjoy a limited theatrical release and continues to air on cable today.

Timothy followed this success with Hidden Blessings (BET), before returning to the indie scene to produce Jacked Up, raising $175,000 in independent financing. Starring Anna Maria Horsford and RonReaco Lee, the film earned Best Work-in-Progress at the Acapulco Black Film Festival before being released by Lionsgate.

His ability to pivot quickly was showcased in Cutthroat Alley, an urban horror film conceived, written, and shot in just two weeks, marking his first foray into horror and his third Lionsgate release.

As the industry embraced digital, Timothy expanded his craft. His short film The Little Girl won Best Screenplay at the 2013 Honolulu Film Awards, while his screenplay for Down For Whatever won TV One’s Screenplay Award in 2017. The film, starring LeToya Luckett and Hosea Chanchez, premiered in 2018 and remains in network rotation.

Most recently, he directed Tales: Survival of The Fittest for BET, starring Kyla Pratt, further cementing his reputation as a versatile storyteller.

Outside of film and television, Timothy has dedicated himself to photography—bringing the same mastery of composition, lighting, and storytelling that define his filmmaking. His images, like his films, capture both beauty and meaning.

With eyes set on episodic television, movies of the week, major motion pictures, and fine art photography, Timothy Wayne Folsome continues to push creative boundaries—telling stories that stay with audiences long after the credits roll.
